Yvonne Bessette (1917 ? 2018) (Picture included)
South Burlington - Yvonne Bessette of South Burlington, formerly of Colchester and Burlington, passed away peacefully into the arms of her God at Allenwood on August 26th. She was born on November 23, 1917 in Berlin, VT to Odena (Perrault) and Omer Bouchard and was their youngest daughter. She was predeceased by her siblings, 3 brothers, Armond, Rolland and Joseph and 2 sisters, Aline DeLaricheliere and Emilienne Bouchard.
She attended grammar school in a one room schoolhouse in Northfield and graduated high school from Mount St. Mary's Academy in Burlington. She graduated as salutatorian of her class from Fanny Allen Hospital nursing school in 1940.
In 1941, she married Raymond L. Bessette who predeceased her in November, 1987.
Yvonne was involved in the Nazareth School PTA when her children attended that school and was active in her nursing alumni organization for many years. She was an active member of St. Joseph's parish in Burlington and later Holy Cross church in Colchester and St. John Vianney after she moved to Allenwood. She served as President of the Colchester Seniors' Association and was an active member for many years.
She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. While not a fan of technology, she had the gift of connection with her family and remembered birthdays and anniversaries with cards and letters. She enjoyed the company of relatives and friends and loved to play cards. She was a gifted seamstress and in her later years, her crochet hook was never far away. She loved to crochet snowflakes and gave away her handiwork freely.
She is survived by a daughter, Lorraine B. Lane of Land O' Lakes, Florida, sons, James R. Bessette of Williston and Paul L. Bessette of Tampa, Florida, a granddaughter, Elizabeth J. King of Land O' Lakes, FL and great grandson, Brady R. King.
Special recognition and thank you to the caregivers at Allenwood who helped Yvonne live her last days in comfort with extraordinary care.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm at the Ready Funeral Home at 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington, VT.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John Vianney Church at 160 Hinesburg Rd, South Burlington, VT on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:00 am. Burial will take place at the St. Francis Cemetery, Winooski following the service. A reception will be held following interment at the Church Center.
A memorial service will be held at Allenwood to be announced at a later date.
