Estate of Ex-Sheriff Wm. Bassett Is Closed
The estate of William R. Bassett, better known as Sheriff or ?Billy? Bassett, was closed in the district court yesterday, when Attorney Lockhart brought up before Judge McFadden the final account and report of Joseph Bassett, as administrator, and after submission of the necessary proof, procured an order from the judge approving the account and report and distributing to Josephine Bassett, the widow and only heir of the deceased, all property belonging to the estate.
The Bassetts were among the oldest and best known citizens of White Pine county. Settling on a ranch in Steptoe valley in the early days when Ely was unknown, Billy Bassett and his wife improved their land holdings and their ranch was one of the best known in this section of the country. When, in order principally to obtain water rights, the Steptoe Valley smelting and mining company purchased many ranches in this section, the Bassett ranch was sold for a handsome figure. Billy Bassett was a picturesque figure in many of the mining excitements of early days and was elected sheriff of White Pine county, which office he filled with signal ability and credit to himself as well as the county. He made a snug fortune in business in Ely during the boom, after which in search of better health he moved to Salt Lake City, where he died in 1907. He will long be remembered for his benevolence and he will live always in memory in White Pine county, where everybody was his friend and he never made an enemy.

Now Thought That He Will Without Doubt Make Speedy Recovery
County Commissioner William R. Bassett, who has been dangerously ill of pneumonia in Salt Lake, is rapidly improving, according to a letter received by County Clerk Miles yesterday. His recovery is now considered a matter of only a short time.
It was feared for a time that Commissioner Bassett would not survived. For a number of days his life hung by a thread, and his friends here had given up home of his recovery.

The funeral of William R. Bassett, the county commissioner of White Pine county, Nev., who died at his home, 68 G street., was held from his residence Thursday afternoon at 3 o?clock. A number of friends came from Ely to attend the services.

Death Of W. B. Bassett
SALT LAKE, Dec. 4.-William B. Bassett, a county commissioner of Ely, Nevada, and for many years sheriff of White Pine county in Nevada, died at his home, 68 G. street, Saturday afternoon, from dilation of the heart. Mr. Bassett was 68 years old. He came to the west from England when he was 22 years old. He migrated from Nevada about six weeks ago to make his home in Salt Lake, where his family has lived for several months. He is survived by his wife and three children. Arrangements for the funeral have not yet been made.
