Operated Jewelry Store Over 50 Years
Eugene F. Bassett Dies At Age Of 83
Eugene F. Bassett, 83, of 24 Crossman St., owner and opereator of Basestt?s Jewelry Store for more than 50 years, died early Monday evening (Jan. 21, 1963).
Born in Castile on Sept. 24, 1879, the son of Charles and Loretta Bassett, he married the former Violetta Hanvey on Dec. 25, 1901. Mrs. Bassett died Aug. 8, 1956.
He was a member of Mr. Moriah Lodge, F. and A.M. and of the Jamestown Commandery. He also was the holder of a 50-year membership award in the Odd Fellows Lodge and belonged to the First Methodist Church.
Survivors are three nephews, Melvin Bassett of Perry; Lowell Bassett of Albany; and Raymond Hughes of Jamestown; one niece, Mrs. Glenn Fuller of Pittsburgh, Pa.; a brother-in-law, Dr. C.A. Hanvey of Lakewood; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jennie Hughes of Jamestown.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Henderson-Lincoln Funeral Home with the Rev. Shemran Epler, associate minister of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The marriage of Eugene F. Bassett of Perry to Violet B. Hanvey took place at the home of the bride?s parents at high noon on Christmas day, the ceremony being performed by Rev. H.B. Hudnutt. Only a few of the intimate friends and relatives werer present. After the marriage, dinner was served. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett will reside in Perry where he is employed in the music store of L.E. Sweet.

Funerals
BASSETT ? Funeral services for Eugene F. Bassett, 83, of 24 Crossman St., who died Jan. 21, 1963, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Henderson-Lincoln Funeral Home. The Rev. Sherman H. Epler, associate pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Lake View Cemetery. Bearers were Neil Hanson, Ralph Brown, Perry Olson, Lawrence Howard, Eric Edman and Clarence Nelson.
