Donald Besstete, 55
WASSAIC – Donald J. Bessette, Jr. a 27-year resident of Wassaic, previously of Copake, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005 at home. He was a staff development specialist for over 30 years for Taconic DDSO, formerly Wassaic Development Center.
Donnie was an avid softball player, playing in a number of leagues at Taconic DDSO in Wassaic. He was a strong supporter of the United Way of Dutchess and was also a three-gallon donor to the American Red Cross. He loved carpentry and his home. He will be remembered as a wonderful father and friend to his son Jesse and a great friend to many.
Born May 15, 1950 in Worchester, Mass., he was the son of the late Donald J. Bessette, Sr. and Dorothy Lyon Bessette. He graduated from Taconic Hills High School and SUNY Albany. On Aug. 25, 1979, he married Claudia Bessette in Sharon, Conn. Mrs. Bessette survives at home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sone, Jesse Bessette of Wassaic; sister, Donna Marks of Copake; brothers, David Bessette of Pine Plains, Dana, Dante Delon and Dave Bassett, all of Copake; ten nieces and nephews; and eleven great nieces and nephews. A brother, Darryl Bessette in 1992, predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2005 at St. Andrew’s Church, Rt. 7 Main St., Kent, Conn. with Father Roger White officiating. Cremation will follow at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Milford Regional Cancer Center, New Milford, Conn.
