Obituary
Mr. A.T. Bassett
It is with regret that we have to announce the death of Mr. Alfred Thomas Bassett, who passed away at an early hour on Wednesday morning last at the age of 31 years. The condiction of deceased, who was suffering from Carcinoma, caused much anxiety to his friends, and his death was not altogether unexpected. A native of Dunolly, the late Mr. Bassett came to Ararat some 14 years ago, and followed his trade as a carpenter. He was a partner with his brother in the grocery establishment formerly owned by Mr. G. Burn, and carried on a successful businesss in the town, making many friends. As a local preacher in the Methodist Church he was well known, and his work in connection with that body was appreciated by the congregation. On Sunday evening an in memoriam service will be held in the Methodist Church, when the Rev. Whitford will give an address, touching upon the attributes of deceased. The remains of deceased were interred in the Ararat cemetery yesterday afternoon, being followed to their last resting place by a large and representative gathering of friends and mourners. The coffin-bearers were Messrs R. and E. Basham, E.R. Sitlington and Williams, and the pall-bearers members of the Traders? Association. Services were conducted at the house and grave by Revs. Whitford and Spalding. Mr. J. Dunn carried out the funeral arrangements.
