Everett V. Bass
Everett V Bass has also been known as John Offie Everett V Bass. The 'V' at this time in unknown in his name. (I asked his daughter, Betty Ann in Sept 2014 what the 'V' stood for and she didn't know he has a 'V' in his name. His wife, Julia, apparently had the tombstone made, so she must have known.
He was born in Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia, to Wiley P 'Willey' Bass and Nancy Posey Bass. All census' estimate his DOB around 1865...not 1856 like his tombstone shows. (10/11/1856 is on tombstone). In the 1870 Ochlocknee, Thomas County, Georgia census, he was 3 years Sold and in the 1880 Bronson & Levyville, Levy County Florida census, he was 14 years old. **It may be the date was transposed by the company that made the tombstone**. ***Date will be changed to October 11, 1865**.
Everett first married Celia A. (also called Celie) Cumbie, who was born between September 1871-1874, in Mitchell County, Georgia, according to all the census's. The actual marriage which has been referred to 1889 & 1894 has never been verified. There was a legal 'Annulled & Dissolved' (or could be a Divorce) in Alachua County, Florida dated July 15, 1901. Celia died in Mitchell County, Georgia on July 23, 1954.
One child was born of that marriage, Emily Bass Kinsey Cox, who was born May 19, 1890 in Bell, Alachua County, Florida (Bell was Alachua County until late 1925, when a Gilchrist County branched off from Alachua County). I was told by my mother, Emily lived with her mother next door to Everette and his parents. One day, Celia came to the fence, put her across the fence and told them to raise her and left. Celia was not seen by the family again. This story has been told my quite a few family members. Emily is buried in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Bell, Florida.
Everett married Julia Minerva Sapp on January 12, 1916, according to Alachua County, Book I, Page 092 of Ancient Marriages. His name on document is Evert Bass.
Everett & Julia had baby to die at birth in 1918 and on July 26, 1925, they had a set of triplets. One died at birth and the other two died about 24 hours later.
Their living children were: Amonds L E, Everett R B, Lois Marie, Donald, Rhoda Alavan 'Annie', Charles Lindberg, Betty Ann and Mason Bass.
Everett died February 19, 1944 in Bell, Gilchrist County, Florida. He is buried in Jennings Lake Cemetery, Bell, Florida, next to his wife Julia.
Amonds LE Bass was the son of Everette V Bass (may also have been known as John Offie Everett V Bass) and Julia Minerva Sapp. He was actually born between Trenton & Bell, Florida, which was actually Alachua County in 1919 and later became Gilchrist County.
He married Dorine Nettles in 1939 in Gilchrist County, Florida.
Siblings were Emily Bass, who was the daughter of Everette by his first marriage to Celia Cumbee. Emily married Charles Felius Kinsey, who died in the flu epidemic in 1919. She later married Arthur Cox.
Other siblings by Everette & Julia Sapp Bass were: Everett RB, Lois Marie, Donald, Rhoda Alavan Annie, Charles Lindberg, & Mason Bass. There was also a baby who died at birth in 1918 and a set of triplets who died in 1925.
