Edith V. Bass (Picture included)
Edith Valentine Thomas Bass, 65, Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Kansas City, Kan., who was active in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, died Aug. 2, 1990, at a hospital in Birmingham.
Mrs. Bass was elected president of the Wive?s Auxiliary of the CME College of Bishops at its convention in Arlington, Texas, in June. She was formerly a teacher in Dallas.
She was a member of the Thirgood Memorial CME Church, Birmingham. She had attended Allen University, Columbia, S.C.; Pepperdine University, Los Angeles; and California State University at Hayward; and became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha at Allen University. She was born in Kansas City, Kan., and lived in California and in Dallas before moving to Birmingham in 1986.
Survivors include her husband, Bishop Richard O. Bass Sr., presiding prelate in the Fifth Episcopal District of the CME Church, of the home; two sons, Richard O. Bass Jr., Birmingham, and the Rev. Claude A. Bass, Jacksonville, Ala.; her father, the Rev. A.H. Thomas Sr., Kansas City, Kan.; three sistgers, Jean Crofton, Ada L. Edwards and Jean Madison of Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Anderson H. Thomas Jr., Kansas City, and the Rev. Jesse B. Thomas, Los Angeles; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services were Tuesday at the church in Birmingham: entombment in the Elmwood Cemetery Mausoleum, Birmingham. The family suggests contributions to the Edith V. Bass scholarship fund at Miles College, Birmingham.
