Clarence Y. Bassett, 85, of E. County Road, Sugarloaf, died early Wednesday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown, following a short illness.
Born in Rush Township, he was the son of the late Jeremiah S. and Kathryn (Yeager) Bassett and spent the past 50 years in Sugarloaf after moving from Danville.
He was a retired line crew foreman for PP & L and retired in 1981 after 44 years of service to the company. He was a member of the PP & L Retirees Club and was a 1936 graduate of Danville HIgh School.
Mr. Bassett was a member of Conyngham United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge of Danville. He was an Army veteran of World War II where he attained the rank of staff sergeant and received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with two bronze stars.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years on May 29, 2002, the former Dorothy C. Everett; son, Ronald, Wind Gap; daughter, Mrs. Timothy (Linda) Boland, Macungie; brothers, Alvin, Sunbury, and Russell and Leonard Carl, both of Danville; sisters, Mrs. Beatrice Erdman, Riverside; Mrs. Walter (Geraldine) Herman, Sunbury; and Mrs. William (Isabelle) Fleming, Bloomsburg.
Two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturda at 11 a.m. from the Mark S. Harman Funeral Home Inc., (East) 669 W. Butler Drive, Drums. His pastor, the Rev. Ross Mowery will officiate the services.
Burial will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.
Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
