Letter Tells Of Death Of Wife Of Former Moravian
Relatives here (Moravia, IA) have received a letter, postmarked Dec. 2, from Macon, Ga., which tells of the death of the wife of James M. Yates, the son of Lillian Sharp Yates, now of Tampa, Florida, who is well-known here. The clipping enclosed states:
"Funeral services for Mrs. James M. Yates, 36, who died in an Americus hospital of injuries received in an automobile crash near there yesterday, will be held this afternoon in Albany, with burial in Thomasville.
Mrs. Yates, wife of the manager of Hickey's Coffee Shop in Central hotel building, was injured when a car in which she was returning to Macon from Albany overturned near Americus. Mr. and Mrs. Yates lived in Hotel Central.
Also injured in the accident was Mrs. Elizabeth Speer, a resident of the same hotel and an employee of the Darling Shop. Mrs. Speer was riding in the car with Mrs. Yates.
Mrs. Yates, a native of Terrell county, was Miss Nettie Bass before her marriage to Mr. Yates. She and her husband had lived in Macon four years. They formerly had lived in Albany and in Washington, D. C.
The victim had received high school education in Terrell county and had been graduated with highest honors from Lewis Hotel Training School, Washington. She had assisted her husband in management of the coffee shop.
In addition to her husband, a leader in local World War veterans' affairs, Mrs. Yates is survived by her mother, Mrs. Fanny Bass; two sisters, Mrs. W. E. Hickey and Mrs. H. C. Cliett, and a brother Gene Bass, all of Albany.
Mrs. Speer stated today that the Macon car was forced off the highway by another automobile running on the wrong side of the road, on a straight stretch, and not on a curve as was reported yesterday. It was reported that the state highway patrol was searching for the driver of the other car."
