They lived in Pascagoula, Mississippi, during World War II, then moved to Port Arthur, Texas, where Bruce worked at a shipyard as a bookkeeper. After retirement, they moved to Jackson, Mississippi, where he worked at several places "just to keep busy". Lessie enjoyed playing the piano in her Sunday School Department at Broadmoor Baptist Church.
