- Charles Bessette
Walsh Heritage, ND, 1881-1981
Charles Bessette came to Oakwood, ND in 1889 from St. Remi, Quebec. He worked for Joseph Campbell for a number of years. Field work was with oxen. He went back to St. Remi in 1898 to marry Cecilia Garant.
Mr. Bessette and his wife returned to the US and farmed at Stephen, MN. Later he bought 14 acres of land one mile west and half a mile north of Oakwood. Going to Grafton with an ox drawn wagon he would often give Bertha LaMarre (now Bertha LaBerge) a ride to town.
Charles and Cecilia had three children:
Maria Bessette, moved to Illinois
Cecilius Bessette, lived in Oakwood
Stanley Bessette, married Adeline Patnaude of Drayton, ND.
Charles Bessette, born May 20 1864, Mrs. Charles Bessette, born Oct. 12, 1864. Both are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, ND.
