      Pearl Bassett

      Pearl Cooper Bassett, a long-time resident of Corning, died in a Red Bluff convalescent hospital early this morning following a long illness.
      She had resided with her daughter-in-law, Alice Basset, on highway 99W, north of Corning. Her son, Floyd A. Bassett, was county auditor for Tehama County at the time of his death in 1967.
      Pearl Bassett was a native of Susanville, born Sept. 28, 1885. She had been a resident of Corning for 49 years. She was the widow of the late George E. Bassett who died in 1955.
      She was a 50-year member of the Order of East Star, a past president of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, both memberships being in Susanville. She was a charter member of the Stitch-in-Time Club of Corning.
      Graveside rites are set for Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Rev. John Nesby of the First Christian Church will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Hall Brothers Mortuary.
