Jack Benjamin ?J.B.? Bass, 97, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 21, 2024. He was born on December 19, 1926 to Floyd ?Jack? Bass and Mary Elizabeth (White) Bass in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He attended Edison Elementary School, Alice Robertson Junior High, graduating from Central High School of Muskogee with the Class of 1944. During his teenage years, he was a Golden Glove boxer and worked in the family business, Bass Grocery Store. Upon his 18th birthday, J.B. enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge at the end of the war. After returning home, he obtained his associate degree from Draughan?s Business College of Muskogee.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Whitby on June 16, 1950 at Central Baptist Church of Muskogee, Oklahoma. They shared 56 years of life, marriage and family and were constant companions travelling and camping until her passing in 2007.
J.B. in his early years worked in the insurance, finance and investment business. Later he obtained his real estate broker?s license and sold many properties. During this time, he also developed several subdivisions and built custom homes.
J.B. accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was an active member of Southeast Baptist Church for over 40 years. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, was a 32nd degree Mason, loved playing dominoes and board games, and enjoyed many outdoor activities. He was a lifetime avid fisherman and could usually be found on a local river bank or lake shore with a fishing pole in his hands until the last days of his life.
J.B. never met a stranger and will be missed by everyone who loved him.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara; his parents, Jack and Mary Elizabeth Bass; son, David Jay Bass; sisters, Jackie Holwell and June Cotter; and son-in-law, Gary Adamson.
J.B. is survived by his 3 daughters and their spouses, Lisa Adamson-Fowler and Clint Fowler, Gayle and David Yarbrough, and Stacye and Bill Beane; 7 grandchildren and their spouses, Tiffany Adamson-Bowley and Jarrod Bowley, Jason and Maria Adamson, Nathan and Jenny Yarbrough, Jeremy Bass, William ?Beau? and Alyssa Beane, Blake and Kathryn Yarbrough, and Kaleigh Beane; 11 great grandchildren, Jaxon, Kasen and Laken Bowley, Ava Adamson, Evie, Eliot, Eleanor and Emmett Yarbrough, Savana and Kamryn Yarbrough, and Owen Beane; sister, Joan Murray-Hogan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
A celebration service of the life of J.B. will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Southeast Baptist Church with Rev. David Yarbrough officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with full military honors. Jason Adamson, Nathan Yarbrough, Jeremy Bass, Beau Beane, Blake Yarbrough and Jarrod Bowley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tiffany Adamson-Bowley and Kaleigh Beane.
