Jane Clark Neel Bass

A special spirit has been lost on earth, but heaven has gained a special angel. Jane Clark Bass was awarded her wings on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, at Levine & Dickson Hospice House after a six-year valiant battle and gracious fight with ovarian cancer. Our hearts are heavy with the loss, but we rejoice in knowing that Jane is with her Lord which she loved so much.
Jane grew up in Winston-Salem, NC, being welcomed into the world by the late John and Mildred Clark on September 29, 1939. She was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School (?57), attended Atlantic Christian College, Rex Hospital School of Nursing, and graduated from Central Piedmont Community College earning an associate degree in nursing. She was employed by Carolinas Medical Center working in the operating room and instructing future nurses to be prepared in the operating room, and later worked with cardiac catheterization patients in a non-nursing capacity. From October 1988 until her retirement in October 2006, Jane was employed in the Same Day Surgery Unit at Presbyterian Hospital.
She was a long-time member of SouthPark Christian Church and held various offices in the local chapter of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN). She was active in the Montibello Neighborhood Association serving as a street hostess. Jane was an avid Carolina Panthers and Boston Celtics fan and a staunch supporter of the Carolinas Ovarian Cancer Fund, especially the Stiletto Sprint having competed for the past two years.
She cherished her family and friends and found great joy in times spent with them. She loved deeply and gave of herself unconditionally. Survivors include her loving husband of twenty years Jon Bass, Sr; daughter Cathy Schroeder (David) of Charlotte; sisters Susan Drew (Ray) of Virginia Beach, Connie Hance (Charlie) of Winston-Salem; stepchildren Jon Bass, Jr, Mark Bass (Jennifer) of Charlotte, and Beth Devereaux of Maryland; grandchildren Michael and Talley Schroeder, Mason, Carson, Morghan and Molly Bass, Casey, Tucker and Katie Lepley; nieces Kym, Jennifer, Eleanor and Elizabeth.
The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, and staff, especially Dr. James Hall and nurse practitioner DeLeslie Kiser at Levine Cancer Institute, Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, and the Levine & Dickson Hospice House for their excellent and loving care of Jane.
Visitation will occur at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte on Friday, August 17 from 6:30 ? 8:30. A memorial service will be held at SouthPark Christian Church, 6650 Park South Drive, Charlotte, Saturday, August 18, at 2:00 p.m.
