Elizabeth ?Ann? Bessette
Elizabeth "Ann" Bessette, 87, long-term resident of Tulsa, peacefully passed away on October 20, 2014, with family by her side, in Ludlow, Vt. Ann was born on November 25, 1926 in Olney, Illinois to Howard Porter and Mary Weber Porter. Ann was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Chappy; her devoted husband, Joe; her eldest son, Dan; and her grandson, Travis. She is survived by: her sisters, Claire and Maisie; her children, Michael, Susan, Chad, and Matthew; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Ann lived her life with gusto. She and husband Joe served and supported the Tulsa community on many levels. Their beloved All Souls Unitarian Church was a source of great fulfillment, and many lasting friendships.
Ann's love of literature prompted her to become a Library Board Member, and an instrumental member of a local play-reading group. Her love of (and accomplishment in) art led to her involvement with Tulsa's Philbrook Museum of Art, as well as many local artistic endeavors. A world traveler and participant in cultural exchange, Ann became an avid collector of unusual artifacts. A driving force was her thirst for learning, she had a long tenure as a student on the local college campuses. Ann's zest for life kept her engaged with the world, and the world will miss her.
A private service will be held in Illinois. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully suggests donations to "Up With Trees" or Tulsa Senior Services.
Thanks are given to the Right at Home staff at Burgundy Place, and also to the dining, housekeeping, and maintenance crews. The family's deepest gratitude is extended to the exceptional staff at Gill Home in Ludlow, Vt., and to the Visiting Nurses Association of NH and VT.
