Charles Bernard Bass, 82, a lifetime resident of Midland died Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at the MidMichigan Medical Center-Midland. He was born on December 15, 1925, in Midland to Charles Alva and Hattie (Grim) Bass. Charles married Joyce M. Toner on January 10, 1948. She predeceased him on March 3, 1997. Charles was a World War II veteran, serving as a Sea Bee in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Carpenter Local 1654 of Midland. He enjoyed being a carpenter for many years, working on numerous local projects. Charles also enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid deer and coon hunter. He always had a joke or story to tell and we will miss his wonderful sense of humor.
Charles is survived by his sons, Charles Edward (Patsy), James (Cheryl) and George (Anita); his daughters Beth (Dave) Weiskirch, Tricia (Rex) Nagle, Michele (Keith) Luckett and Kelly (Ralph) Starks all of Midland; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Norris, Lloyd, Leroy, David and Douglas; and his sisters, Eva Hemminger, Evelyn Bass, Beryl McClain, Winona Kenyon and Wanda Wilson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Smith.
Funeral services will be held at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home on Friday, November 14, 2008, 11 a.m., with Pastor Daniel Youmans of the Lighthouse Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Midland Memorial Gardens.
Members of Charles' family will meet with friends at the funeral home today from 4-7 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Charles' name.
