  Notes	Evening Star, District of Columbia, Sunday, May 25, 1941 L. Col. R.O. Bassett, Jr., Dies After Auto Crash Lt. Col. Richard O. Bassett, jr., 48, died Friday at the Fort Benning (Ga.) Hospital of injuries received in an automobile accident near the Army?s infantry post, it was learned here yesterday. A native of Albany, N.Y., Col. Bassett had entered the Army from civil life in 1917. He later was commissioned in the Reserves and accepted in the Regular Army after the World War. At the time of his death, he was a student in the Infantry School at Fort Benning. He had attained the rank of lieutenant colonel on November 29, 1940. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Brita M. Bassett; a son, Richard O. Bassett, 3d, and his father, Richard O. Bassett, sr. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. 1920 Federal Census of Ft.
