Man Killed, Others Hurt in Mishaps
One person was killed and another seriously injured in two rural accidents near Columbus Saturday.
Eugene Bassett, 34, of Juniper, Ga., was killed when the car he was driving collided with another automobile on Macon Road at the Jenkins Road intersection, approximately 12 miles east of Columbus late Saturday.
Benjamin Cook, father-in-law of Bassett, whose age was unavailable, of Omaha, Ga., was injured in the accident. At last report he was undergoing emergency treatment at the Medical Center and his condition was unknown.
Dennis Bassett, 10, of Juniper, and son of the elder Bassett was treated for minor injuries and released, as was Susan Farley, 16, of Upatio, Ga., a passenger in the other vehicle.
Details of the accident were unavailable at press time.

JUNIPER, GA. - Funeral services for Eugene Bassett, 34, Juniper, who was killed in an automobile accident Saturday night on U.S. 80 near Upatoi, will be held today at 3 p.m. at Geneva Baptist Church, with burial in Geneva City Cemetery.
He was born Dec. 25, 1935, in Talbot County, Ga., a son of Katie Belle Bassett and the late Roy O. Bassett.
Other survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Cook Bassett; a daughter, Miss Deborah Lee Bassett; a son, Dennis Eugene Bassett, all of Juniper; five sisters, Mrs. Charles Dowling, Waycross, Mrs. Charlie Ligon, Juniper, Mrs. T.W. Tyler, Talbotton, Mrs. Johnnie Hendrick, Thomaston, and Mrs. Riley Johnson, Marietta; four brothers, Eddie B. Bassett Sr., Talbotton, Roy Bassett, Junction City, and Wilbur and Bobby Bassett both of Juniper.
