Rene Leveille passed comfortably in the company of his loving family and the wonderful caregivers at the Hospice wing of the Holyoke Soldier?s Home on May 1, 2016. Rene attended Precious Blood Grammar School and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a member of the anti-aircraft artillery battalion in the European Theater as a field lineman in the telephone and telegraph communications system. Just prior to his deployment, he married the love of his life Leona Bessett Leveille and they have been together for the past 73 years. Rene?s career was in heavy construction as a carpenter and pile driver for Dan O?Connell Construction Co. During that time he built his own home and raised six children. Rene is predeceased by his parents Jean-Baptiste and Aldea Leveille who owned a bakery in south Holyoke during the early 1900?s which accounts for Rene?s everlasting sweet tooth. Also predeceasing Rene were his brothers Dr. Norman Leveille and Lindor Leveille. He will be forever loved and missed by his children: son Paul and wife Patricia Mitchell; son Marc and his wife Bonnie Gifford; son John and his wife Lyn Mitchell; daughter Lynn Kobylanski and husband Ed Kobylanski; son Tom and wife Claire Conway; and daughter Renee Freniere. Also missing him will be his 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Friday at 8:30 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Chapel of St. Jerome Church. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street in Agawam. Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holyoke Soldier?s Home, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
