WIFE OF FIRST SETTLER
ARH 16 Jul 1909
Mrs. Harvey Bassett, Sr., passed away at Hospital, Ill., at 11 o'clock Saturday night, her death resulting from a general collapse due to her advanced age.
Mrs. Euretta Flanders Bassett was born in Jay, Essex county, New York, Aug. 22, 1821. She was reared and educated in her native state and taught school there until her marriage to Dr. Harvey J. Bassett of Vermont, the wedding occurring in 1856. Shortly afterward they came to Tuscola to reside. He was the first physician to locate here and was long recognized as the leading physician of the town, and both of them, owing to there education and refinement, were prominent socially.
Mrs. Bassett leaves three children, Harvey and Frank of this city, and Mrs. Carrie Bassett Moon of Seattle, Wash. She has four brothers who reside in the east.
