  Notes	The Advance, St. John, Kansas, 18 May 1893 Died Died ? On Saturday morning, May 13, at 2 o?clock a.m. at his home in Ohio township, John Scott, (colored) age 65 years. Mr. Scott had been confied to his bed for a month or more and had suffered very much. His career has been a strange one; born a slave in Louisiana he afterwards represented Jackson Parish, his old home, in the legislature. Funeral services were held at the African M.E. church in this city last Dunday and conducted by Rev. F.G. Barr. Mr. Scott?s daughter, Mrs. Simpson, and husband, of San Diego, California arrived Saturday morning.
