      Joseph Bassett Has Passed Away
      Former Resident of West Taylor Township, Expired Saturday at West Fairfield
      Joseph Bassett, who for 25 years was an employee of the Johnstown Water Company, died at his home at West Fairfield, Westmoreland County, after an illness lasting about a year. His death was due to a complication of diseases, including paralysis. The funeral took place this afternoon from the Methodist Episcopal Church of West Fairfield, the services being in charge of the Rev. George Grant, of the Bolivar M.E. Church. Burial was made in the West Fairfield Cemetery. The pallbearers were John Murphy, John McBerney, Leonard Hofecker, Samuel McDowell, George Cummins, and Harry Hamlon.
      The deceased was born at Butterton, England, January 16, 1842, and was married there September 9, 1861, to Miss Emma Lomas, who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett came to America in 1873 and located in Allegheny County, where they resided until 1879, when they located in Johnstown. Mr. Bassett helped build the St. Clair dam in Lower Yoder Township. After the completion of the dam Mr. Bassett helped to lay the water main from the Millcreek dam to Johnstown, his superintendant being the late James Williams. Mr. Bassett worked for the local company, which was known as the Johnstown Water & Gas Company, for a period of 25 years before removing to his farm in Westmoreland County. For a while after the Bassett family came here from Allegheny County they made their home near the St. Clair dam, later removing to a farm in Westmoreland County, where they resided before removing to West Fairfield.
      Mr. and Mrs. Bassett celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1911, when many Johnstowners participated. Besides his widow, Mr. Bassett is survived by these children: Joseph H., of 195 Barron avenue; William E., of Conneaut Lake, Pa., a minister in the Erie Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church; Annie, wife of James McBerney, of near Fort End, Pittsburg; Harry, of West Taylor Township; Arthur, also of West Taylor Township, and Miss Minnie, at home. There are also 20 grandchildren.
      The deceased was a member of the West Fairfield Methodist Episcopal Church and was a charter member of the Ancient Order of Foresters.

      Deceased Was Widow of Joseph Bassett, at One Time Water Co. Foreman
      Mrs. Emma L. Bassett, widow of Joseph Bassett, whose health had been impaired for a long time, died this morning at the home of her son, Joseph H. Bassett, 195 Barron avenue, Eighteenth Ward, aged 83 years. Her death was due to general debility. She had been bedfast for a week.
      The deceased, whose maiden name was Emma Loomis, was born in England and was married there a long time ago to Joseph Bassett. The Bassett family came to Johnstown a long time ago and settled in West Taylor Township. Mr. Bassett was for a long time a gang foreman for the Johnstown Water Company. His death occurred at West Fairfield, Westmoreland County, in July, 1916.
      Seven children, 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Bassett. The sons and daughters are Joseph, at whose home Mrs. Bassett passed away; William pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Sugar Grove in the Erie Conference; Anna, wife of James McBurney, at present in the State of Florida; Hannah, wife of Frank Lesiter, of Pittsbugy, Harry Bassett of West Taylor Township, and Mss Minnie Bassett, at home.
      Mrs. Bassett was a member of Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at the Bassett home in Morrellville by the Rev. Thomas H. Morris, the funeral party to leave between 1 and 2 o'clock for West Fairfield, where interment will be alongside the remains of her husband.
