  Notes	Catherine Brewster Bassett Hagar Burlington Free Press April 8, 2004 Burlington/Shelburne - Catherine Brewster Bassett Hagar, "Kitty" to many, died naturally Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at her home at Wake Robin in Shelburne with her loving family nearby. She was born April 8, 1907 in Burlington to Samuel Eliot and Bertha Raymond Bassett. Her two brothers, Raymond Eliot Bassett and Thomas Day Seymour Bassett, predeceased her. Their families were always dear to her. She married George I. Hagar in 1932. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his death in 1992. They are survived by their children, G. Henry Hagar, Harriet H. Diedrich, and Mary H. Currier; their grandchildren, Heidi Willcox, Catharine Hagar, Edward Cunningham, and John, William and Stephen Currier; and their great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Christopher Willcox, and Hailey Cunningham. A loyal member of the UVM Class of 1929, Kitty was active in alumni-alumnae affairs. As an educator, she taught at various Vermont high schools, including Burlington High School, her alma mater. She also tutored students in literacy programs. An active member of her community, she served gladly in fine causes; her College Street church, her Ruggles Foundation, Burlington YWCA and Camp Hochelaga, Rotary wives enterprises, Fletcher Hospital Auxiliary, and Howard Relief, not to mention leadership in the cookie production brigade for her many involvements. Her other interests included Friends in Council, The Neighbors, Ethan Allen wives, Klifa Club, The Theater Club, and with her husband, The Malletts Bay Boat Club. Singing was a joy for her and to those who heard her. While in college, she sang a solo from the upper reaches of the Ira Allen Chapel. Her host of friends lived far and wide, as did her extraordinary correspondence with them. Her smile, her words and her dear ways will be felt and remembered by us all. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 12 at 1 p.m. in the College Street church in Burlington. Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 71 South Union Street, Burlington, is in care of arrangements.
