Sumpter Wright Bass
Mr. Bass, 54, of 354 Echodale Drive, Charlotte, died October 4, 2003 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville, NC. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, October 11, at Aaron Temple United Methodist Church, Bennettsville, SC. Burial will be in Quick Cemetery. Family hour will be at the church on Saturday from 2 p.m. until the hour of service. The Wake will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gethsemane Baptist Church, 2670 Dr. Carver Road, Charlotte.
Mr. Bass, a native of Marlboro County, SC, joined Aaron Temple at an early age. He graduated from Eastside High School, Class of 1967, and attended JCSU in Charlotte. In 1973, he began his career with Duke Power and was a faithful employee until the time of his death.
Survivors are his wife of 27 years, Gloria S. Bass; daughters, Tarsha Bass (Michael) and Donnia Williams (Lonnie), both of Charlotte, and Laguanda Flemming of St. Petersburg, FL; sons, Surron Bass, Sumpter Lamont Bass (April), and Satchel Bass, all of Charlotte; his mother, Mrs. Leola Bass of Cheraw, SC; sisters, Oralee (Samual) Pitts of Buffalo, NY, Mable Wright and Susan (Al) Gerald, both of Brooklyn, NY; four grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Lizzie (Dino) Sanders of Charlotte.
