Bass, 80, died Wednesday at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Coffeeville, Ala, and was retired from Exxon Corp. Bass was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lambda Chi Alpha and the Masons. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Melvin A. Shortess, Baton Rouge; a son, Lake Bass, Darrow, and several grandchildren. He was 80, a native of Coffeeville, Ala., and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was retired from Exxon Corp. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., after 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Religious services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Bobby Rush and the Rev. Sherrard Rice. Burial in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by a daughter, Mrs. Melvin A. (Marna) Shortess, Baton Rouge; a son, J. Lake Bass, Darrow; and seven grandchildren, Marna Amey Shortess, Melvin A. Shortess Jr., John Bechtold Shortess, Sun Lake Bass, Tasia Lane Bass, Anna Leah Bass and Kim Lacy Bass.
