James W. Bass, former dentist in Irving, Texas died on Friday, September 14 after a long illness with Parkinsons. James was born in Abilene, Texas on December 14, 1934 and attended Abilene schools. He married Bette Ann Carroll in 1956. James graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1957, immediately received his commission in the Navy and served 3 years of active duty. He stayed in the Naval Reserve, attaining the rank of Lt. Commander, until 1966 at which time he entered Baylor Dental College. After graduation, he practiced dentistry in Irving until February of 2000. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bette; sons, Jay Bass and wife Elva of Grapevine and James Gregory Bass and wife Lauri of Abilene; four grandchildren: Zachary Bass and Rebecca Bass, both of Dallas, and Taylor and Charles Bass of Grapevine, and sister, Barbara Bass Evans of Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents J.W. and Eva (Staley) Bass; grandson, Michael Jay Bass; sister, Judy Baker; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Bass. Services will be held on Tuesday, at 11:00 a.m. at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home, 606 W. Airport Freeway, Irving, TX. A family service will be at the National Cemetery on Sept. 28th at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Medical Center Foundation.
