Ernest R. Bassett passed away September 24, 2014 in Centralia, Washington at the age of 97. He was born to Frank and Carrie (Bishop) Bassett on May 5, 1917 in Raymond, Washington. Over the years, he also lived in the Washington cities of South Bend, Grayland and Westport, as well as Williams Lake and Puntzi Mountain, British Columbia, Canada.
Ernest graduated from Centralia High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 where he was a bomber mechanic. He was a rancher in Canada for more than 30 years, and also was a cook. He loved riding horses, collecting driftwood, and polishing rocks.
Ernest is survived by his former wife, Elinor Bassett; sons, Bernie Elkins and Charles Char; daughters, Pam Vasquez, Cathy Mott, Carol Rolfe, Sherry Howell, and Deanne McKee, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Joe and Guy; sister, Nina; and daughter, Karen Kay Bassett.
