F.P. Bassett Rites Sunday in Neshoba
Final rites for Floyd P. Bassett, of Jackson, 29-year-old oil field worker, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Rocky Hill Church of God, in Neshoba county, under the direction of the Daws Funeral Home of Philadelphia, Miss.
The Rev. M.Y. Kennedy, pastor of the Jackson Church of God will officiate. The body will be at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home until Saturday afternoon and will then be taken to the home of his parents, where it will rest until the service hour.
Mr. Bassett was working with a drilling crew in the Bolton oil field when he was struck by a piece of heavy equipment Thursday afternoon. He was rushed to the Baptist hospital by a Wrigth and Ferguson ambulance and was pronounced death on arrival at 4:25 p.m. at the hospital.
He was a native of Rocky Hill Community, Neshoba county, and was living at 611 South Congress street, in Jackson, at the time of his fatal accident. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the 78 AFA battalion. Following his release from service he farmed for several years in Newton county near Union, and had worked in oil fields for the past two years.
He is survived by his wife, the former Irene Emerson, daughter of Mrs. Virgil A. Dickerson of Jackson, and a young son and daughter, Frankey Lee and Nora Ann, all of Jackson; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. I.O. Bassett, of the Rocky Hill Community near Sebastopol; five brothers, Alton Odell Bassett, of Winchester, Tenn., Howard Victor Bassett, Stancel Bassett, both of Monohans, Tex., Dorman Wright Bassett, Henry Bassett, both of Sebastopol; six sisters, Miss Delma Bassett, of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Brown, of Memphis, Tenn., Mrs. Yvonne Beckham, Edith Bassett, Sallie Jo Bassett and Martha Ann Bassett, all of Sebastopol.
Pallbearers will be Edward Lee Comans, Gordon Comans, Jake Ogeltree, Irby Bassett, Reba Loper and William Lee Pilgrim.
Interment will be made in the Steam Mill cemetery in Neshoba county.
