Clyde E. Bass Jr.
Clyde E. Bass Jr., 69, of Beloit, WI, died Saturday, March 27, 2010 in his home surrounded by his immediate family after a 10 month fight with colon cancer.
He was born July 2, 1940 in Beloit, WI, the son of Clyde and Fayetta (Johns) Bass. Clyde was a 1958 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed in Okinawa from 1963 to 1965. Clyde married Sharon Graves on July 8, 1967 at Sun Valley Presbyterian Church, Beloit, WI.
Clyde was employed by Besly Products as a toolmaker from 1959 until his retirement in 2002. He was the Financial Secretary for over 40 years for the UAW, Local 46 and the Financial Secretary for 31 years for UAW Rockford CAP Council. Clyde strongly supported labor unions and was a member of the UAW for over 40 years. He was a Harley Davidson motorcycle rider for 50 years, taking trips out East and West, and attending many Harley celebrations in Milwaukee, WI. Clyde was a Brewer and Packers fan and enjoyed listening to the blues. He loved spending time with his granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Bass of Beloit, WI; son, Kent (Patti) Bass of Spooner, WI; daughter, Julie Bass of Beloit, WI; granddaughters, Elise and Taye Bass of Spooner, WI; beloved dog Lacey that he rescued 4 years ago; brother-in-law, Lanny Graves of Beloit, WI; special cousins, Sheldon Johns and Georgia (Bass) Punswick; aunt, Lillian (Harold) Hawley; and several other cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents and grandparents.
The family would commend Beloit Regional Hospice for their skill and support during Clyde's illness, as well as the medical staff at the Monroe Clinic and Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 in the Sun Valley Presbyterian Church, 1650 Sun Valley, Beloit, WI, with Reverend Dave Ewing officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum, Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Visitation will also be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday in the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Sun Valley Presbyterian Church or Beloit Regional Hospice.
