Charles F. Bass
DECATUR - Charles F. Bass, 90, of Decatur, died Thursday, September 8, 2005.
Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Sunday, September 11, at Brintlinger & Earl Funeral Home, Decatur. Graveside services will held 1:00 P.M. Monday, September 12, 2005, at Mound Cemetery, Oconee, IL, with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to VFW Post #99.
Charles was born September 4, 1915, in Bowling Green, Ohio, the son of Fred and Harriett (Gilbert) Bass. He married Geraldine E. Abell July 4, 1943, in Decatur. Charles served overseas in World War II with the 12th Armored Division. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of three Bronze Battle Stars. Charles was a 50-year member of Carpenters Local Union #742 and a life member of VFW Post #99.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine of Decatur; daughters, Kathleen Carter and husband Carey, Patricia Doyle and husband Don; grandson, Zachary Doyle, step granddaughters, Melissa Doyle and Carra Davidson; and two step grandchildren; sisters, Fern Newsome and Winifred Driscoll.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
