She moved to California with her husband Grady in the early 1940s and remained here until her death. Verna, an ordained minister, served the community through her works in the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Etta Coffel; husband, Grady; brother, Leon; and son, Miles. She is survived by daughters, Nina and Al Savery of San Francisco and Delois Smith of Bakersfield; 9 sisters, 2 brothers and many other loved ones. She had 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Visitation is Friday, September 25, from 4-8 p.m., at Hillcrest Mortuary. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 26, 10:30 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
