Child Killed Near Byron Thursday P.M.
Mr. George Goddard, Prominent Reynolds Man, Driver of Ill-Fated Automobile
The last sad rites were conducted Saturday, 4:30 p.m. for little Larry Bassett, seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Bassett, Rt. 2, Byron. The lad was fatally injured Thursday afternoon when hit by an automobile driven by Mr. G.H. Goddard of Reynolds. Larry had just stepped from a school bus at Powersville a few miles out of Macon.
Surviving relatives are his parents; six brothers, Joseph Bass, Kenneth Bassett and Robert Bassett Jr., Macon, Jimmy Bassett, Alaska, Billy Bassett, Birmingham, Ala., and Jacky Bassett, Ft. Gordon; four sisters, Minnie J. Bassett, Shirley Bassett, Carol Bassett and Betty Bassett, all of Byron; and several aunts and uncles.
Mr. Goddard is reported to be greatly distressed by the mishap. It is believed that in his excitement Mr. Goddard pressed the gas lever instead of the breaks when he was confronted with the danger he was facing.
The stricken child was rushed to the Macon hospital immediately for treatment of broken legs, broken arms and head injuries, hospital examination revealed. He died at nine o?clock Friday night.
