      Mabel Bennett Scott

      Mabel Bennett Scott, age 87, died February 15, 2011 in Inverness, where she has spent winters with Kathy & Ronnie since 1997. Her home being Gilbert Rd, Mayfield, after the sale of her home in Hessville, NY.

      Mabel was born on March 17, 1923 to the late Roy and Florence Manchester Bennett in Gloversville.

      She enjoyed fishing, gardening, puzzles, cards, crafts, quilting, taking pictures and crocheting for her grandchildren.

      She was a great seamstress and made lots of our clothing, including prom dresses. She taught us how to sew on her Singer sewing machine. She made many beautiful quilts over the years.

      She got her computer at age 75, she like to use the computer to read the newspapers, check her email, scan old photos, update family tree and check out the NASCAR site.
      She took lots of wonderful pictures to share with family and friends. She was a great cook and was well known for her popcorn balls and home-baked beans.

      She was a woman of many talents and she was thoughtful and kind to everyone.

      Mabel worked at The Melrose Shoe Factory in Little Falls, The Clyde Bank Knitting Company in Fort Plain, The Fort Plain Packing Company and the Fort Plain School cafeteria. She was a founding member of the South Minden Ladies Auxiliary in Hessville, NY.

      Survivors include her four daughters, Marion Scott, Castleton, NY; Katherine and Ronald Van Alstine, Mayfield, NY; Elizabeth (Betsy) and Ronald McGovern, Cherry Valley, NY and Lynda and Dennis Prime, Fort Plain, NY; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many good friends and neighbors.

      She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Albert Scott in 1997; a son Carl Scott in 1942; a brother Cyrus Duesler in 1993 and a great-grand-daughter, Samantha Van Alstine in 1999.

      She is now at rest in Freybush cemetery.
