Bassett, 86, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., founder and former owner of Plus New England Services, who died Feb. 16 in a Fort Lauderdale nursing home. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., Mr. Bassett had lived in Newton and Sandwich for many years before moving to Fort Lauderdale 16 years ago. A graduate of Syracuse University, he was the manager of the Boston Office of the Comptometer Co. until 1953, when he founded Plus New England Services, a company that manages a group of business schools and performs inventory and computer services. Mr. Bassett sold the firm and retired in 1970. He was a 32d degree Mason and was a former member of the Dalhousie Masonic Lodge in Newton and the Braeburn Country Club. He leaves his wife, Madeleine (Gilbert); a daughter Alysse Irion of Wellesley, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
