Donald Bassett, 86 Founded Management Firm
Services were held for Donald B. Bassett, 86, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., founder and former owner of Plus New England Services, who died Feb. 16 in a Fort Lauderdale nursing home. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., Mr. Bassett had lived in Newton and Sandwich for many years before moving to Fort Lauderdale 16 years ago. A graduate of Syracuse University, he was the manager of the Boston Office of the Comptometer Co. until 1953, when he founded Plus New England Services, a company that manages a group of business schools and performs inventory and computer services. Mr. Bassett sold the firm and retired in 1970. He was a 32d degree Mason and was a former member of the Dalhousie Masonic Lodge in Newton and the Braeburn Country Club. He leaves his wife, Madeleine (Gilbert); a daughter Alysse Irion of Wellesley, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
