George W. Bass, 67, Buried at Oakridge
SOUTH BOSTON ? Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the home in Danville for George W. Bass, 67, with burial following in Oakridge Cemetery, South Boston. Dr. Frank C. Riley, pastor of the First Baptist Church here, assisted in the final rites at Oakridge.
Mr. Bass was a native of Halifax County and up to a few years ago lived in South Boston, where he had been in the tobacco business as an auctioneer all his life. His death occurred unexpectedly Friday morning.
Mr. Bass was a member of South Boston?s first Tobacco Board of Trade, organized in 1907. He was the son of W.A. and Rebecca Ingram Bass and married Miss Nannie Blanks. He is buried by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. James P. Shoffner Jr., and one son, Horace G. Bass, all of Danville; three sisters, Mrs. Henry T. Crews of South Boston, Mrs. R. A. Chaney of Halifax, Mrs. G. J. Adams of Clover, and three brothers, W.E. Bass of Waycross, Ga.; Dr. Archer B. Bass of Portsmouth, and J.T. Bass of South Boston.
