In Memory Of Robert Bass
1928-2012
Robert was born November 1, 1928 in New York City, New York to Glenn and Harriet bass. He graduated from Cazenovia Central High School in Cazenovia, New York. Robert spent 27 years serving our country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Due to his disability he lived for a time in Ah-Gwah-Ching Nursing Home in Walker, Minnesota and then was transferred to Kelliher in 2004. He quickly became part of the family of residents at the care center there. Because Robert was never able to verbally express his thoughts or feelings, through time the staff learned his likes and dislikes through facial expressions and emotions. He enjoyed being talked to and would "light up" if someone sang to him. He also enjoyed being outdoors and going for walks. During his life he was an avid stamp and coin collector and was a member of the Arrowhead Stamp Club in 1987. He was also very involved with the American Legion Post 1572, had a lifetime membership certificate, and continued to receive invites for meetings and parties through 2011. Robert's loss of vision apparently did not take away his enjoyment of traveling as he kept a business card in his wallet with his name on it and a quote that said, "have cane will travel!" Robert is survived by a nephew Tom Bass of Sandpoint, Idaho, a niece Cynthia of Kemah, Texas, and the "family" of residents at Cornerstone. He was predeceased in death by his parents and brother Ray.
