Blanche Bessette Dowd (1929 ? 2017) (Picture included)

Blanche Bessette Dowd, 88, died quietly on November 27, 2017 in the comfort of the special caregivers of the VNA Respite House in Colchester. Blanche was born on September 12, 1929 in Charlotte, the daughter of Lyman and Mable Bessette. She spent her early years in Charlotte and then moved to Richmond where she graduated from Richmond High School. She attended Burlington Business College and worked at Plant and Griffith Lumber in Jonesville prior to her marriage.
She married Leon Patrick Dowd on September 1, 1956 in Richmond at the Holy Rosary Church. He predeceased her. She is survived by her two children Cheryl Lynne Dowd and Brian Bradley Dowd of Richmond. She leaves her grandchildren Kevin Dowd, Brandy Dowd and Shauna Northrop and her sister in law Alice Sandwell of Richmond. Blanche also leaves many longtime friends from the Grange. She is also survived by longtime friends Vianna Bennett, Betty Mahoney, Faith Weunschel, Hilde Devino, Diane Monette and Anne O'Brien.
Visiting hours are Monday December 4, 2017 from 1-4 PM at Gifford Funeral Home 22 Depot Street Richmond. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday December 5, at 11 AM at Holy Rosary Church, Richmond. Burial will be in the Spring in Riverview Cemetery, Richmond. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Richmond Rescue or the VNA Respite House 3113 Roosevelt Hwy, Colchester, VT 05446.
