Roana Bass Hayes; age 101; passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008 at her Alexian Village home on Signal Mountain. Mrs. Hayes was born June 16, 1906 in Long Island, New York and was a daughter of the late Fred and Stella Bass. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry H. Hayes and her brother, George Quincy Bass. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Alton; son, Stephen (Billie) Hayes; devoted grandson, Troy (Melanie) Alton; and great-granddaughter, Sarah Alton (the light of Mrs. Hayes life), all of Chattanooga; nephews, Robert T. Bass, of Hot Springs, AR; and George Q. Bass, of Vienna, VA; and several grand nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at St. Timothys Episcopal Church, 630 Mississippi Avenue, Signal Mountain, TN 37377. The family will receive friends 12-1 p.m. at the church. Private family burial will take place in Washington, DC at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alexian Employee Christmas Fund, 100 James Blvd., Signal Mountain, TN 37377.
