Rev. Elmer ?Sam? E. Bass Jr.
STOYSTOWN, Pa. - Rev. Elmer "Sam" E. Bass Jr., 51, of Stoystown, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Memorial Medical Center.
Born Nov. 10, 1948, in Ilion, N.Y., he was the son of Emma J. Jerin Bass of Hagerstown and the late Elmer E. Bass.
He was the former pastor of Central City Full Gospel Church and Victory Lighthouse Church.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the U.S. Air Force; and a 13-year veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve. He also served as a police officer in Confluence, Rockwood and Windber boroughs.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Violet Moore Bass; three children, Ronald Bass of Central City, Pa., Michele Trybus of Stoystown and Sherry Bass at home; stepfather, Floyd Price of Hagerstown; a sister, Catherine Rummel of Hagerstown; stepbrother, Earl Coleman of Hagerstown; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Rev. Earl Coleman.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Central City Full Gospel Church. The Rev. John Coleman will officiate. Burial will be in McGregor Cemetery, with military graveside services by Central City VFW and American Legion Posts.
The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. at Mulcahy Funeral Home in Central City, Pa.; and Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.
