Louis L. Bassett
Louis L. Bassett, who lived in Stamford for 30 years, died yesterday at Greenwich Hospital of complications from diabetes. He was 75.
Mr. Bassett was born on Dec. 8, 1913, in New Haven, the son of the late Edward and Rose (Cohen) Bassett.
Mr. Bassett, who was the owner of Universal Woolens Inc. of Hackensack, N.J., started the company 50 years ago and worked there until his death.
Mr. Bassett, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, graduated from the Lowell Textile Institute in Lowell, Mass., in 1936 and was valedictorian. He also was captain of both the football and basketball teams while at Lowell.
He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Wolf Bassett, who died in June 1985.
Mr. Bassett is survived by three sons, Michael H. Bassett of Greenwich, Peter A. Bassett of Phoenix, Ariz., and John B. Bassett of Windham, N.J., and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Leo P. Gallagher and Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St. Greenwich, Burial will be private.
