Archie L. “A.L.” Bass, Jr.
April 29, 1950 - February 19, 2019
Archie L. Bass, Jr. "A.L." passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Shands U.F. Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, following a brief illness.
Archie was born in Valdosta, Georgia, on April 29, 1950 to the late Archie L. (Sr.) and Ruby Sowell Bass. As a young man he enjoyed getting out to hunt and fish with his father and brothers and going out to eat was a favorite past-time. A.L. grew up in Jasper, Florida, and graduated from Hamilton County High School. He retired from the Florida Welcome Center where he worked for a number of years. His communication skills were good and he loved to visit with folks. Upon retirement he found that staying still was not for him and so he went to work for the County in the janitorial department. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them all especially after losing his mother in January of 2017. A.L. went to church all of his life with his mother but had recently enjoyed attending Jasper Church of Christ with his cousins and meeting a whole new group of people. Survivors include his brothers, Robert Bass (Rosario) of San Antonio, Texas and Melvin Bass (Terri) of Fernandina Beach, Florida. He was especially close to cousins, Cindy and Bob Eatmon, Nancy and Jorrie Mathis, Laurie Rogers, Jill and Mike Adams and Jay and April Bass. Numerous cousins and nieces and nephews that he loved dearly also survive. Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, Florida. Interment following in Evergreen Cemetery. Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
