Clara Smith Bass
Mrs. Clara Bass, 91, of Valdosta passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at her home after a lengthy illness. Born in Clinch County on November 1, 1913, she was the daughter of the late A.B. and Annie Smith and the widow of Jesse J. Bass. She had lived in Valdosta for the past 64 years and was retired from W.T. Grant Company. She was also a member of South Valdosta Church of God.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Hubert Bruhl; one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James E. and Audrey Bass all of Valdosta; nine grandchildren, Jonathan and Loujeania Bruhl of Panama City Beach, Fl., James and Sheila Bruhl of Naylor, Jeffrey and Connie Bruhl, Jeanne and Danny Parsons, Angie and Victor Paulk all of Valdosta, Kirk and Jacalyn Bass of Blairsville, Ga., Dwayne Bass of Valdosta, Travis and Jennifer Middaugh, and Andy Middaugh all of Wellsville, NY; eleven great-grandchildren, William and Leanne Parr, James Jr. (Jimmy), Janice, Jessica, and Joshua Bruhl, Madison and Elizabeth Paulk, Gwendolyn, Travis Jr., and Gracie Middaugh, Amanda and Sarah Parsons; one great-great-grandson, Austin Bruhl; one sister, Carrie Lee Futch of Dupont; one sister-in-law, Connie Friedenberger of Valdosta and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bass was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Bass will be held on Friday, February 18, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Ken Savage and Rev. Bill Campbell will officiate. Burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
