Mr. Bassett was a retired State Trooper employed by the U.S. Marshall Service. He was a member of Sandusky First Baptist Church and he was a Mason. Survivors include wife Mrs. Melba Bassett; daughter, Miss Amy Bassett; sons, Mr. David (Kim) Bassett, Mark (Suzette) Bassett, Scott (Debbie) Bassett; sisters, Mary Frances Chance (James), Patricia Wilemon (Wayne) all of Birmingham; grandchildren, Ashley, Kaitlyn, McKenzie, Jonatha, Madison, Patrick and Mallory. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 2, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Bell Funeral Home Forestdale Chapel, with burial in Freewill Cemetery, West Jefferson, AL. Rev. Ricky Thacker and Mr. Gary Bradley will officiate. Family received friends Friday from 6 til 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Bell Funeral Home Forestdale directing.
