Kenneth Edward Bassett
A private graveside service will be held in Willamette National Cemetery for Kenneth Edward Bassett, who died Dc. 22, 1998, at age 79. Mr. Bassett was born April 30, 1919 in Bedford, Iowa. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He moved to Ben in 1948 and to Portland 1950. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 10 years before retiring in 1979. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he had been a cook for homeless people. In 1950, he married Eloise E. Holloway; she died in 1995. Survivors include his daughters, Patricia Graber of Vancouver, Wash., Nancy Jacobs of Portland; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A son, David, died in 1987. The family suggests remembrances to a favorite charity. Arrangements are by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service.
