Doris Bass Sykes
BLADENBORO -- Doris Bass Sykes, 87, passed away peacefully Monday, April 3, 2023, at Liberty Commons Nursing Facility. Doris was born Oct. 19, 1935, in Columbus County, to the late Albert Ross Bass and Gethea Todd Bass. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Delma Kay Sykes; and a brother, Joseph Bass.
She worked for several years as a Nurse Assistant at the former Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, April 7, in the Old Davis Cemetery in Elizabethtown with Rev. David Kelly officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the cemetery. McKenzie Mortuary, 112 Jefferson St., Whiteville, is serving the Sykes family.
She is survived by her daughter, Crystal Simmons (Josh) of Whiteville; two sons, Kenneth M. Sykes (Lori) of Warrens, Wis. and Roger Dale Sykes (Jane) of Bladenboro; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Liberty Hospice as well as the staff of Liberty Commons Nursing Facility.
