Fairbury - Velma I. Bassett
FAIRBURY - Velma I. Bassett, 66, of Springfield, a Fairbury native, died at 11:58 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 28, 1991) at St. John's Hospital, Springfield. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Staab Funeral Home, Springfield, Robert Green officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bassett was born Jan. 18, 1925, in Fairbury, a daughter of Earl and Eubena B. Schlicher Range. She married Leo Bassett April 21, 1945. He died in October 1983. Survivors include on daughter, Sharon Bassett, Springfield; one son, Stephen A., Springfield; two brothers, Curtis Range, Tulare, Calif., and Kenneth Range, Chenoa; two sisters, Eva Heinrich, Pontiac, and Earlene Dunham, Maple Park; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter and one sister. A resident of Springfield most of her life, Mrs. Bassett retired in 1988 after working 20 years in the cafeteria of Grant Middle School. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 437. Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospital Cancer Research.
