Edgar Leroy Bass
GREENVILLE - Edgar Leroy Bass, 75, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
Edgar was a loyal and dedicated man. He served in the Army Reserves in 1965. Notably, he became employed as the Personnel Director and Business Manager of ECU's School of Medicine at the very start of the program. There, he was the 3rd person to be hired, as they began building the foundation of a now, very well established medical school.
After retirement, he spent all of his free time at Grimes Plantation, where he helped manage the restoration of the plantation and hunting preserve. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and his hobbies included hunting and fishing.
He is loved and survived by his son, Edgar Bryant Bass and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Skylar, Sally, Spencer, and Sadie; brother, Richard Bass; niece, Beth; and nephew, Jeff.
Edgar was loved by a great many people. During his time at the hospital, he had an average of 15-20 visitors every day. It was apparent that people deeply cared for and respected him. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sound Rivers, a nonprofit organization that guards the health of the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico River Basins. Donations can be made to Sound Rivers, PO Box 15451, New Bern, NC 28561.
Arrangements by Wilkerson Funeral Home and Crematory.
