John Bassett Dies After Long Illness
John Bassett died at the family home on South Ferry street at 2 o?clock this afternoon, following an illness of several months.
The funeral services have been arranged for Wednesday afternoon at the residence and burial will be in Riverside cemetery.
John Bassett was born July 5, 1852, in New York state. The early years of his life were passed in that state. Later he went to Minnesota where he resided for many years. Sixteen years ago Mr. Bassett and family came to Oregon and have since made their home in this city. Since July of this year Mr. Bassett has ben confined to his bed.
Beside the widow, Mr. Bassett is survived by three children, Leon Bassett, and Mrs. Roy Nutting of Albany and Mrs. May Cobb of Scio.

OBITUARY: MARTIN COUNTY SENTINEL (9 Nov 1920): John Bassett, one of the earliest settlers of Elm Creek Township, passed away last week at his home in Albany, Oregon, where he moved 16 years ago. . . . His widow and three children survive, all living in Oregon."
