Miss Smith Is Engaged To James O. Bass, Jr.
Of outstanding social interest is the announcement made today by Mr. and Mrs. Marion Goodrich Smith of the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth Goodrich, to James Orin Bass, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James Orin Bass.
The marriage will be solemnized impressively on June 17.
The bride-elect is a granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Wyche Manier, and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Smith. She was graduated from Harpeth Hall and held membership in the SAP Club of which she served as president. In May the bride-elect will be graduated from Vanderbilt University where she is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta women?s fraternity.
Mr. Bass is grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Warner and of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis Marion Bass. He attended Montgomery Bell academy and was graduated form Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va. The bride groom-elect held membership in Alpha Chi preparatory school fraternity. In May he will receive his B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University where he is a student tin the School of Law and where he holds membership in Sigma Chi Fraternity.

Elizabeth Smith Bass of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on July 26, 2021. She was born on May 1, 1937 in Nashville to the late Marion G. Smith and Nancy Manier Smith. She graduated from Parmer School, Harpeth Hall and Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church where she and her husband James O. Bass Jr. were married in 1959. She was also a member of the Junior League of Nashville, Garden Club of America and First Wednesday. Her warm and compassionate nature made her loved by one and all.
Liz was preceded in death by her parents, her parents in law James O. Bass and Susanne Warner Bass, sister Sarah Nickey of Memphis, and brother Marion G. Smith Jr. of Newport Beach, CA. She is survived by her husband, children Nancy Bass Cox (Robert) of Atlanta, Susanne Bass Young (David) and James O. Bass III (Candy), seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held in Courtney Hall at First Presbyterian Church from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Monday August 2, preceded by a family committal service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Friends of Warner Parks, 50 Vaughn Road, Nashville, TN 37221.
