  Notes	From Sandy Neil: "William Bassett accompanied his daughter Emily and her husband Adolphus Evandon to America in the fall of 1865, to establish a home and be self-employed so his wife and other children could join them. His wife, Alice, son William, in his 20's, and 5 younger children, Mary, Alice, Frances, George and Joseph, left Liverpool, England on December 7, 1867, on the "Old Queen", a large sailing boat. When they were in mid-ocean, they encountered a storm which disabled the ship and for a week they floated with no ability to follow a course, and three weeks after their sailing date they arrived in New York Harbor on January 1, 1866. During the storm Mrs. William Bassett gathered her children around her and prayed aloud to God to protect them all and to permit them to meet again their father, and to land in Port safe and well, which they did, and their joy was complete and their father was thrilled with sincere thanksgiving at their happy reunion in their new home on a farm at Fenner Corners, NY. Two years later, Elizabeth Bassett was married to James Barkes, August 31, 1867. The following day, they sailed from Liverpool, England, accompanied by his uncle, Jim Edwards. Deceased passed away after suffering greatly for more than a year, from heart disease, with complications. He lived to a good old age, cheered by the Christian's hope for the future and comforted by their faith in the ever present trials of life. His patient trust in God during his last illness was beautiful to see. Mr. Bassett came from England in middle age, with a wife and a large family of children, who all survive him, and many have been with him in his declining years. In his death, the church loses a faithful beloved member. I walk with bare hused feet on the ground Ye trod with boldness shod; I dare not fix with mete and bound The love and power of God.
